A Matter of Etiquette 2024

The “Questione d’Etichetta-2024” contest, organized by Mosnel, aims to design a label and packaging for a limited-edition bottle of a rare vintage of Franciacorta from the same winery.

The design for the competition is inspired by the three-letter acronym “QdE,” which distinguishes the finest vintages of Mosnel wines. The acronym is transformed into three vine leaves emerging from a stroke of gold. The freshness and energy emanating from the symbol reflect the same mastery in capturing the fleeting perfection of a special vintage like this one. The aim was to show how the winemaker’s expertise can transform a fleeting moment into gold, around which the three leaves revolve to form the QdE monogram.

The label paper I chose is Fedrigoni’s Cotone Nero. The textured surface of this cotton paper evokes the richness and power of the wine, and it also allows for hot stamping with gold foil. The paper’s black background enhances the contrast with the gold of the emblem and the white of the leaf outline. The packaging, on the other hand, uses Fedrigoni’s Sirio Ultra/Black paper. Since this cardboard does not contain carbon black pigment, it avoids issues with the use of gold foil, which is used to embellish the vine wrapping around the exterior of the package. The packaging containing the bottle is wrapped in an outer sleeve from which it is slid out to be opened, offering a gradual experience of discovery. A treasure should be revealed slowly, and once the inner packaging is removed, it serves as a display frame for the bottle.
